How We Raised Eight Bilingual Children in Our Non-Native Language
I have bachelor's degree in German Teaching and a masters in Language Acquisition. My husband and I have 8 children. Having spent a few years in Germany as a child, I decided that I wanted our children to learn German. My husband had taken a few years of German in college and was willing to give it a try. When our first child was born, we decided to only speak German to him. At first, it felt a little strange to speak to our baby in a foreign language, however, with time, it felt more and more natural. 20+ years later, all eight of our children are fluent in German.
